Reiki is a form of energy work (or healing) founded by Dr Mikao Usui in Japan and practitioners are ‘attuned’ to act as channels of heavenly Ki. In addition they are expected work towards the principles of Reiki.
These are the form in which they were taught to me:
Just for today I will…
- Not worry.
- Not anger.
- Earn my living honestly.
- Honour my parents, teaches and elders.
- Show gratitude to every living thing.
I say work towards, because we are all human. Sometimes these principles are harder to embody than at others! “Just for today” reminds us that we focus on the here and now and do the best we can.
MORE THAT REIKI…
Reiki is probably one of the most heard of approaches of energy work, aside from “faith healing”. However, energy healing has been a traditional practice wherever there are people in the world.
As far back as I remember I have had an awareness of energies around me. Increasingly I’m interested in connecting with the land around me, and the plants, animals and spirits that populate it. My self-practice of energy work focuses more on this.
The energy of sound has also been a constant through my life. The effect that sound (and music) has upon us cannot be underestimated and I use this to cleanse the therapy space that you enter (and sometimes ting-sha as part of your treatment). In 2022 I will embark on training as a sound therapist and increasingly bring this into my work.
